love…again.

I love to write about love.
I have said to perfect strangers, “I love you” and I have meant it with every fiber of myself.

I think we get to have that as humans. I don’t think love comes as condition but as decision. There are no constraints on love, just the decision to offer it and that decision is reaffirmed daily in my experience.

Love, however, separates from like. I don’t believe we have to LIKE everyone or even be in relationship with everyone we meet. That’s not the commandment I’ve been given. My command is to love. Like is variable, love is constant. Love says that no matter how you shift or how I move we will always know this about one another. Love makes intimacy possible in the most present way, to strangers.

Love means saying hard things knowing that we may be rejected for them, love means saying tender things, knowing we may be rejected for them, love means injury happens and often and that the bandaging of that injury may even come at the hands of the one who hurts us.

So you must know
that I love you
truly
with every ounce
of agape
that makes it’s home
in this broken body
and heart swollen
with fear and trembling
even so
you must know
that I love you
deeply
