pwem…

I confess. I did not ask permission to post this next poem. I think the author will forgive this seeing that he’s my dad.

It’s because of my dad that whenever I am about to say the word “poem” out loud I very nearly say “pwem” instead. One syllable, pwem. It’s a silly thing but it’s our weird, silly family thing. I like it.

My dad sent me this pwem about a year ago and I ran across it today and thought I’d post it. It’s hardcore…and beautiful. Enjoy.

“Upon wakening breathless from drowning nightmare”

in noisy recall of violent times
this awesome god i fear
seemed then to me so far
so far away from here
and yet He visits in my darkest hour
silently to say
I AM but a breath away.
