middle age…

Another in the series of poems I’m writing for Dave for your perusal this Poetry Tuesday…

middle age

lover,
these days
I am likely
to direct your attention
with sly looks
and soft whisperings
eyebrow raised
to the crack in the ceiling
or bills left unpaid
my warm arms welcoming
laundry loads
built of children’s clothing
laden with evidence of outside play
afternoons spent rolling
in high grass
unfettered freedom
fully felt revelation
my quiet sigh
a reminder
to remember
what it felt like
when we were
a woman in love
and a man on fire
and more
than a snapshot found
at the bottom of a box
