The challenge in a transmedia project is finding a way to let each platform be true to itself AND the story. The advantage I have in developing the Matt Rizzo project is that it is a true story. I can rely on the facts. Matt Rizzo was born in 1913 to Italian immigrant parents in Chicago. He dropped out of school in the 4th grade and left home at the age of 16 to ride the rails during the heyday of hobo adventures. During the Great Depression, he turned to a life of crime… etc.
This set of facts, become the skeleton of the story. Currently, the playwright Bryn Magnus is putting the meat on the bones of the Matt Rizzo story. The live stage demands a different set of criteria than a movie, or graphic novel, does. This was readily apparent at a table read we recently did…
